Lurline Chamber Orchestra and Rising Stars for The Galston Concerts

Sunday 17 September finds the Lurline Chamber Orchestra and Rising Stars pianists playing for The
Galston Concerts.

Starting at 2pm in Galston Uniting Church, the concert sees founder and Leader of the Lurline, iolinist Maria Lindsay, performing the dazzling Carmen Fantasy by Spanish composer Sarasate, based on famous tunes from Bizet’s most popular French opera Carmen.

Lurline will also perform music by Mozart (composer of The Magic Flute), Holst and Rossini (composer of William Tell), all linked to the theme of youth, and the heartfelt Melancolie by Czech-Russian composer Napravnik. Youthful talent will also be featured in three young prizewinning pianists from the Sydney Conservatorium’s Rising Stars program.

• Leroy Ma, 13, a prizewinner in Sydney Eisteddfods and in China will play the virtuosic Pink Nautilus which won him an audience prize at the Steps to Mastery piano competition in St Petersburg, Russia this year.

• Ten year-old Fiona Feng, a frequent prize-winner at the Sydney Eisteddfod and already an Opera House Young Pianist Showcase performer will play music by Mozart.
• Joshua Zhi, also 10, a prizewinner in Belgium, Italy and a special Jury Prize at the St Petersburg ompetition, will perform the Concerto in D by Josef Haydn as soloist with the Lurliners.

The Lurline Orchestra unites leading Sydney string players whose past years in such groups as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony and Australian Chamber Orchestra have been set aside for their preferred careers as freelance musicians. Their occasional returns to SSO, ACO or the Opera House opera and ballet orchestras are balanced by Lurline’s perennial performances in Sydney regional concerts. Following Lurline’s starring success in the final Arcadia Music Recitals series in 2016 and with Galston Concerts attendance approaching capacity, bookings are advised hrough trybooking.com (search Galston).
